How Fast Can I Go in a No Wake Zone?
As a long-standing marina located in a no-wake zone on Lake Hopatcong, we’re fortunate to offer members and guests alike a tranquil docking experience at our full-service fuel dock. It’s clear when a passing boater does not abide by no-wake zone rules – waves start rolling in, and boats in our typically calm marina begin to rock. Those of us on the shoreline are often not that happy about it.
Why do boaters break no wake rules? We find the simple answer is that sometimes boaters are simply unsure about proper speed and etiquette, often asking our instructors and team members: “How fast can I go in a no wake zone?”
In this video, we demonstrate the proper speed and wake when navigating through a no wake zone on your boat, taking into account etiquette, other boaters, and safety factors.
What is a No Wake Zone?
New Jersey regulations define “slow speed/no wake” as the speed at which a vessel moves through the water and is able to maintain minimum headway in relation to the vessel or structure being passed and producing the minimum wake possible. Read more on no wake zones in our blog here.
