So you’re approaching the fairway back to your slip, and you realize that you need to turn your boat around… perhaps another boat is in your slip, or you went to far and need to turn around. Although turning your boat around can be a rather daunting task, you can learn to pivot your boat in a tight space safely and confidently. Watch our newest boater safety education video, which offers some tips and techniques on how to pivot – or spin – your boat around on YouTube.
In this newest, two-minute boater education video from Bridge Marina, Ray Fernandez demonstrates how you can comfortably and capably turn your boat around in a tight space, like a fairway. Driving a Bridge Marina Boating Club fleet boat – a 24 triple pontoon boat from Starcraft Marine – Ray approaches the fairway and then spins the boat around 180 degrees so he can successfully leave the fairway. Understanding wind and current, using the “steer then gear” technique, and transitioning between gears and steering quickly are just some of the techniques and skills Ray covers that will help you turn your boat around in tight quarters.
